Boston places 2nd at the West Point Women’s Fall Invitational

West Point, NY

Seven teams took part in this year’s annual fall invitational handball tournament that West Point’s women’s handball team hosted. The teams were split into two groups for the first round with Group A consisting of Boston, Carolina, and Army Gold. Group B consisted of Army Black, Levis, Carolina 2 and Ocean NJ.

At the end of the round robin games, Carolina led Group A while Boston settled for second place. In Group B, West Point Black ranked first and Levis was second in the group. The four teams moved on to the semi-final round playing the cross-over games: Boston vs Army Black and Carolina vs Levis.

Carolina and Boston defeated their semi-finalist opponents to face off in the final. Just like in their first round game, Carolina relied heavily on their player’s superios athletic condition and ran fast breaks throughout the game scoring about half of their total goals from counter-attacks. Carolina had defeated all their opponents throughout the tournament with large goal margins and kicked off what promises to be a successful season for the southern club of mostly american players.

Also notable, in the tournament, was the astonishing performance of Ocean NJ, a club that was established two years ago and consisted of young ladies around 16 years old at the time – some even younger. Ocean NJ placed 5th of 7 overall in the tournament and demostrated the ability to play good disciplined handball all day, fighting to the last few seconds of their 5th-place game against Army Gold and earning their spot with a lot of hard work and perseverence. The final rankings of the tournament were:

  1. Carolina
  2. Boston TH
  3. Army Black
  4. Levis
  5. Ocean NJ
  6. Army Gold
  7. Carolina 2
