Another first official Matchday in West Point (Women)

Boston, MA

The women’s team also travelled to West Point for the first official tournament of the season. When half of the team arrived on Saturday Oct 29th and enjoyed a diner with the men’s team in a typical diner, the other part courageously drove on Sunday morning. Nevertheless, everyone was motivated and determined to fight during the three games scheduled for the day. Starting by the toughest…

New York City, our main opponent for the Northeast League first place, was the first challenge of the day. For most of the team it was our first game together and the beginning of the game was tough. NYC quickly took the lead when we struggled to score. We managed to catch up and tied the game thanks to our good defense, the saves of our goalie Lucie and good plays in attack. After fighting hard, we got the lead for two balls. Despite this great spirit, we missed the opportunity and lost the game. Final score : NYC 13-11 BTH

Our second game was against West Point Black (the best of the two). As always against them, the first half was tight. No one panicked and after some mighty goals from Elise (pivot) and Georgia (right back) and strong defense we gained some air. This allowed the American sisters (rare enough to be mentioned), Stephanie and Julia, to enter their first handball game ever! The rest of the game was serious with good plays and an intense defense. Final score : BTH 18-11 WPB

Last but not least, we played West Point Gold for our last game. The objective was clear, in order to not let NYC get too much ahead, we had to win by more than +12. All of us were tired but everyone gave its best. Again, our defense was strong and our efficient attack put us 13 goals ahead. Mission accomplished ! Final score : BTH 22-9 WPG

Despite the loss against NYC, this tournament was a great experience. The team showed an awesome fighting and team spirit supporting each other in every moments! While our coach Bruna was doing an amazing job for her first time on the bench, our shiny new players were showing a very positive attitude and Binta was scoring like crazy (TOP scorer of the tournament). We can’t wait for the next one!
